PROPERTIES

Slate is a fine-grained, foliated rock, formed when the original material - usually mudrock or shalestone, changes overtime at low pressure and relatively low temperature.

APPLICATIONS & COLOURS

As with many natural stones, it varies in hardness. It is a popular material for uses such as flooring, fireplaces and in its harder form for worktops. We supply Italian Black Slate for fire hearths and surrounds.

Slate comes in many colours, the most popular colours are grey in which the shades range from light to dark. However, it is possible to find other colours such as red, green, black, purple etc. depending on the type of iron or raw material present in the rock.
